Semiconductor Sector Dominates S&P 500 as Nvidia Leads Unprecedented Rally
U.S. semiconductor stocks have surged to a record 12.1% of the S&P 500, doubling their weight in just three years. Nvidia, now accounting for 56% of the sector's market cap, has propelled the rally with a $3.8 trillion valuation after climbing 63% since April. The broader semiconductor index ($SOX) has outpaced the S&P 500 with a 111% gain over three years.
June saw chip stocks lead all sectors with nearly 15% gains as Nvidia shattered its January high, trading above $155.50. Marvell Technology, Credo, Allegro, and Astera Labs joined the rally with single-day jumps up to 8%. The Trump-era tariff war remains a lingering backdrop to the sector's meteoric rise.
